Safey & Operational Briefing
To ensure a pleasurable, relaxing, and safe sail for everyone, please take a moment to read our essential onboard guidelines. Safety is everyone's responsibility, and a little preparation ensures a perfect holiday on the water.
SAFETY FIRST: NON-SWIMMERS, CHILDREN & DECK PROTOCOLS
- NON-SWIMMERS: If you cannot swim, or are an unconfident swimmer, you must inform the captain immediately before departure. Non-swimmers must wear a life jacket at all times while on deck, even when anchored or docked.
- CHILDREN HANDLING: Children must wear a properly fitted life jacket at all times when outside the salon. They are never allowed on the forward deck or flybridge stairs without adult supervision. Absolutely no running or horseplay anywhere on the boat.
- MAN OVERBOARD (MOB): Shout "MAN OVERBOARD!" loudly. One designated person must point continuously at the person in the water without looking away. Instantly toss a horseshoe buoy or cushions toward them. Keep away from the space between the hulls. Recovery is strictly via the rear transom sugar-scoop swim ladders.
- LIFE JACKETS: Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) are located in your cabin wardrobe or under the salon settees. They must be worn in rough weather, at night, or anytime the captain requests it.
- ESCAPE HATCHES: Located inside the midship companionway hulls. Keep the floor areas surrounding these hatches completely clear of bags and luggage.
HELM, BUTTONS & ELECTRICAL CONTROLS
- DO NOT TOUCH BUTTONS: Do not press any buttons, switches, or screens at the chart table, navigation station, or helm station. Unauthorized setting changes can disable critical navigation, safety systems, or anchor equipment.
- VHF RADIO: The marine radio at the chart table is for emergency crew use only. Do not touch or key the microphone unless instructed by the captain during an emergency.
WINCHES, LINES & RIGGING SAFETY
- DO NOT TOUCH WINCHES OR LINES: Never play with the winches, grind them, or release any lines ("ropes") or clutches. Yacht lines carry extreme tension. Releasing a rope unexpectedly can cause catastrophic rig failure or severe injury.
- ROPE AWARENESS: Keep fingers, loose clothing, and long hair far away from turning winches. Never stand on coiled ropes or let them wrap around your ankles. Stay clear of the windlass and bow area during anchoring.
DECK LEVELS & SOLAR PANELS
- FLYBRIDGE ROOF WARNING: Do not jump into the water from the flybridge roof or the bimini top under any circumstances. It is extremely dangerous due to shallow water, hidden hulls, or underwater machinery.
- SOLAR PANELS: Do not step on, sit on, or touch the solar panels on the roof/cabin top. Never place cups, cans, or sunglasses on them. They are extremely slippery, fragile, and sensitive to weight and scratches.
- BALI "TILT" DOOR: The massive garage-style saloon door must only be operated by the crew. Never stand under it while it is opening or closing. Verify it is mechanically locked before walking under it.
- FRONT COCKPIT DOOR: The solid glass door leading from the salon to the front cockpit must remain locked shut while the yacht is under sail.
- DECK MOVEMENT: Wear non-slip, closed-toe deck shoes (no bare feet on deck). Avoid stepping on the flat glass deck hatches over the cabins. Keep one hand and two feet securely on the boat at all times.
SMOKING POLICY
- DOWNWIND ONLY: Smoking (including vapes) is completely banned inside cabins and the salon. You may only smoke outside on the aft deck or sugar scoops. You must stand "towards" the wind (downwind at the very back of the boat) so ash and smoke blow away from the boat, other guests, and the sails.
TOILET (MANUAL HEADS) OPERATION
- THE GOLDEN RULE: Never flush toilet paper, wet wipes, tampons, or trash. Everything goes into the waste bin. If you didn't eat it first, it doesn't go in the bowl. Blockages destroy the vacation and result in heavy charter penalties.
- HOW TO FLUSH:
- Flip the valve switch to "Wet Bowl" (left).
- Pump the handle 15–20 times to push waste completely into the holding tank.
- Flip the valve switch back to "Dry Bowl" (right).
- Pump 5 more times until the bowl is dry to prevent backflow.
- FINISHING: Always leave the valve on "Dry Bowl" when finished to prevent accidental flooding while sailing.
